On 15 panels of this exhibition many so far unpublished photographs are shown together with other archive material from the visit of President Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk to the Holly Land in 1927. It also shows his extraordinary relationship with Judaism and the genesis of this from his childhood. The exhibition also touches on the activities of his son, the late Minister of Foreign Affairs and is a reminder of the important role Jan played in the relationship to the Jewish nation and the State of Izrael.

Concert – part of the festival OUT OF THE SHADOWS - Music and Theatre from the Jewish archive"
Hans Gál, Heinrich Schütz, Joseph Haydn, Robert Schumann, Johannes Brahms
Performers: Clothworkers Consort Leeds(UK), conducted by Bryan White
‘Out of the Shadows’ in Prague, Pilsen and Terezín features a wealth of exciting and moving performances derived from the vast accumulation of music and drama that was forgotten or thought lost because of the Holocaust, whether directly or indirectly. The festival is part of the international research project Performing the Jewish Archive (www.ptja.leeds.ac.uk), a collaboration between the Universities of Leeds and York (UK), Madison-Wisconsin (USA), and Sydney Conservatorium (Australia). The project researchers explore established and previously unknown archives around the world to locate these materials, at the same time challenging the very definition of what an ‘archive’ is and how we present it to the public in a meaningful and accessible manner.
